San antonio kennel club dog show

The San Antonio Kennel Club (SANKC) is a United States organization with members who breed, show, judge, and trn their dogs. Founded in 1937, it is the largest kennel club in Texas and the largest dog club in the US. SANKC is headquartered in San Antonio, Texas.

SANKC's members have been responsible for some of the greatest dogs in canine history. Included are the winners of over 1,600 shows, the sires of over 700,000 dogs, and the dams of over 400,000 litters.

History

The SANKC traces its roots to the late 19th century when the San Antonio Kennel Club was established. The club operated in the late 1800s and early 1900s as a show dog club, and its name was the San Antonio Kennel Club. It was active until around 1937, when a fire destroyed the old show grounds. The San Antonio Kennel Club was revived after the fire in 1939 and, at the same time, the club's name was changed to the San Antonio Kennel Club. SANKC was incorporated in 1953 as the San Antonio Kennel Club, Inc., and has been in continuous operation ever since.

The SANKC's first president was Lillian S. Brown. She was followed by J. R. "Rusty" Brown, who served as president from 1946 to 1964. Rusty Brown also founded the SANKC's second parent club, the San Antonio Dog Show Association, which operated in conjunction with the San Antonio Kennel Club. In 1965, the San Antonio Dog Show Association separated from the SANKC, becoming the San Antonio Dog Show.

The San Antonio Dog Show Association continued to function as the SANKC's parent club until 1992, when the SANKC and the San Antonio Dog Show Association merged to form the San Antonio Kennel Club. The merged club is known as the San Antonio Kennel Club, and is headquartered in San Antonio.

The SANKC and its parent club, the San Antonio Dog Show Association, have been members of the United Kennel Club since 1991. This membership allowed the SANKC to affiliate with the United Kennel Club as a division. The SANKC is a member of the United States Kennel Club (USKC), the world's largest purebred dog registry, but remns unaffiliated with the AKC, which is the world's largest kennel club organization.

The San Antonio Kennel Club has a rich history and tradition, and a dedicated membership of dog show enthusiasts who continue to be a vital part of the SANKC.

Governance

The SANKC is governed by a group of dog-show professionals who form the executive board. The executive board is composed of the president, vice-president, treasurer, secretary, two directors, the judges' coordinator, and the directors' secretary.

The San Antonio Kennel Club is a member of the United Kennel Club (UKC), which is the largest canine registration organization in the United States and is an affiliate of the AKC. As a member of the United Kennel Club, the SANKC is a member of the United Kennel Club Federation and, therefore, is eligible to participate in the AKC Canine Specialties series of dog shows. In return for its participation in the AKC Canine Specialties series, the San Antonio Kennel Club is eligible to hold AKC championship titles, such as those of obedience and conformation.

Championships

The SANKC has a variety of championship titles that are awarded based on the type of dog and the obedience to which the dog has been trned.

Canine Specialties

The San Antonio Kennel Club also has Canine Specialties titles for dogs who have excelled in particular aspects of dog showmanship. These titles include the United States Dog Show, World Dog Show, United States Dog Agility, and United States Dog Freestyle titles.
